In a country like Israel, the tourism industry moves forward by baby steps. A new hotel, a new attraction, mall, restaurant etc. It is not very often that something really big happens that changes the playing field. Well, a major attraction is about to shake things up. Welcome to Design City, Israel’s most ambitious project in years!
Design City is a real game changer from many angles. Design City is a newly built mega-complex in the Judean Desert, in a dusty forlorn industrial park. If this sounds like a far out place you probably don’t want to visit, guess again. For those of you who know a little Israeli geography, about 15 minutes away from this desert oasis lies Israel’s capital city and vacation center, Jerusalem. Visiting Design City is not going to take an all day desert trek.
What is Design City? Design City is a state-of-the-art dazzling mall complex in Mishor Adumim. Built on 18 acres of land, the complex will encompass over 1,000,000 square feet with more than 200 stores from the world of design, architectural offices, conference hall, exhibition center. It will be possible to design a home and make all your purchases in a single afternoon!
While that may sound more like a useful place for Israeli new home buyers than tourists, the centerpiece of the complex will be the Venetian style Piazza with restaurants, shops and of course plenty of entertainment. There will be an entertainment and leisure center, performance venue, spa, gym and more. A boutique hotel designed by world renowned Daniel Hasson is planned next to the complex. A massive indoor amusement park is also planned.
Design City is expected to host over 6 million visitors a year. Currently 3 million visitors pass by the venue every year on the drive down to the Dead Sea, and Design City will surely become a can’t miss stop along the way.
With the official opening set for only two weeks away on July 19, 2021, not only are we looking forward to Israel’s greatest new attraction, but the sprouting of something bigger in the desert. Maybe Israel’s version of Las Vegas!
